Promoted listing

Definition

A Promoted listing is one a seller has paid $99 to place at the top of the Indiemaker shelf for 30 days, with a Promoted badge wherever it appears. It is a single payment, with no subscription and no refund once the placement starts, and it doesn't change the success fee.

A Promoted listing is one its seller has paid to place at the top of the shelf for 30 days. The badge says exactly that: this position was bought.

What $99 buys

One payment of $99 buys thirty days. The listing carries a Promoted badge wherever it appears, sorts to the top of browse and search, and is eligible for a slot in the weekly deal digest. There is no subscription and no refund once the placement starts. The success fee is unchanged.

What it doesn't buy

Placement buys a position. Thirty days is a window of time, with no promised number of views or enquiries. Promoted listings get no closer checks than any other listing, and a listing that is currently Promoted isn't picked for the Featured strip.

Where it bites

Promotion puts a listing in front of more buyers. It doesn't make the record any stronger. A $90,000 asking price on four months of profit history is still a hard sell at the top of the shelf, because no multiple shows until six unbroken months are declared. Finish the record before paying for attention.

Worked example

A seller lists a newsletter at $86,000 with twelve months declared, and buys Promoted the day it goes live. An offer arrives on day nine and the transfer completes inside the window. There is no refund for the unused days. If it sold fast, the promotion did its job.

Why it matters when you exit

Against a 7% success fee on an $86,000 sale, which is $6,020, $99 is small. It earns its place when the listing is complete and priced where the record supports it.
